Sanae Sugano was born in Japan. Her interest in art was awoken for the first time when she studied Japanese calligraphy at school. Moving to Europe renewed her passion for painting and drawing. This motivated her to follow courses at well-known art academies in the UK and Belgium.
Her works aim to provoke an emotional response or a conversation based on inspiration derived from her experiences or memory.
By exploring space and time through her ethnic background, she exploits her concepts with collage as well as conventional and unconventional materials in order to create a pictorial vocabulary in 3D or 2D form on a diverse surface.
Images are further developed through techniques such as drawing, painting, photography and installation, as well as using mixed medium, sometimes in combination.
